Despite six inches of snow and a cold, dull, foggy morning as the photos taken at South Lake show, there were plenty of people out and about at Kelsey Gardens this morning and Chris was doing a roaring trade. Remember the refreshments Bar is open every Saturday and Sunday throughout the winter, even when it is snowed in.
Friday saw a rare visitor to South Lake in the form of a Bittern, which was sat up a tree overlooking the lake. There are not many of these in Britain and they are secretive birds inhabiting the reed beds around lakes. I assume it was in the tree because the pond was frozen over and its source of food inaccessible.
There is a photo of it on the photos blog.
